A photoshoot is the perfect excuse to treat yourself to a top-to-toe pampering. The day before your shoot, take some time to exfoliate, touch up your roots and paint your nails. Not only will this save the photographer time in post, but you will feel primped, preened and fabulous on the day!

For best results, a full face of make-up is ideal for that perfect pin-up look. Your make-up should be a little heavier than you usually wear, and you can use tricks like contouring and false lashes to enhance your features for the camera! Avoid any super-reflective highlighter and keep things matte for a doll-like complexion.

For hair, silky straight or full and curly, it's up to you! Tame any frizz or fly-aways with hairspray and a comb, to ensure you are looking sleek, and save your photographer a bunch of time editing them out!

Prepare-Your-Poses.jpg

Showing up with a list of prepared poses will help you feel confident and ensure the shoot runs smoothly! Before your shoot, take some time to work out which poses and angles are the most flattering. Try taking five minutes in front of a full-length mirror and observe yourself. What are some of your favourite features and how can you highlight them? Check out this guide to pin up poses.

If you plan on posing in a costume, or using props, a pole or a lyra, make sure you spend some time with the mirror preparing your poses. Not only will you be able to find the most flattering way to show off your moves or props, but you'll also figure out how long you can hold the pose for!

Practice your facial expressions too. The best way to do this is by taking selfies! Try mouthing different vowel sounds (A, E, I, O, U) and see what shapes you like. Maybe its a cheeky smile or a sultry pout, whatever makes you feel gorgeous!

Collaborate-&-Listen.jpg

Your photographer is there not only to snap the pictures, but to help guide you through the whole experience. Make sure to have a chat at the start of your shoot, and show them any reference pictures for poses or styling you might have, as well as asking any questions. Let your photographer know what you consider your biggest assets, so that they can help you show them off!

Make sure to mention any details that are important to you, whether it be a birth mark you adore, or a pimple you'd rather not have in your photo! The photographer doesn’t know whether you consider your spot a “beauty mark” or a “flaw”, so be specific about what you want touched up in Photoshop.

As scary as a photo shoot can be, try to relax and have fun! Not only will this make the experience feel more positive, but your mood will shine through in your photos too. If you feel really nervous or awkward, you could ask to bring a trusted friend along to help you feel a bit more comfortable.

Try bringing along a playlist of music that makes you feel sexy, and ask the photographer to play it while you pose. This will help you slip into character and nail those poses. Don't be afraid to really ham it up - there's nothing like a genuine laugh or smile!
