lgbt-cuties: celebrating LGBTQIA+ students at Sky Sirens.

Words by Maya Hart | Photography by Sky Sirens Creative Team

Our wonderful community of Staff & Students at Sky Sirens is full of love, support & unique experiences. For the latest edition of our We Are Sirens campaign, we showcased some of our incredible LGBTQIA+ identifying students. We aim to show our audience the rich diversity in experiences within the community, and give our students the opportunity to share their stories and celebrate their identities.

What We’ve Learned: embracing the learning opportunity to improve access at Sky Sirens.

Our primary goal for our student spotlight photoshoots and interviews is to gain valuable feedback that we can use to improve the accessibility and inclusion at Sky Sirens. We know that we cannot know what everyone of every community needs without asking them directly, so Maya sat down with the participants and encouraged free and open feedback.

Masc Representation

Most of the feedback we have received during this event was regarding the lack of masc representation in Sky Sirens media. This is a big issue that we have been working behind the scenes to address. We’ve recently published Magnificant Mascs - a blog post showcasing a handful of our incredible masc-identifying students at Sky Sirens. We’ve also recently added more masc and gender neutral clothing options to our Parlour.

Gendered Language

We learnt that sometimes our Sirens slip up and use gendered language - so we’ve reminded the staff, and implemented an updated Gender & Sexuality module into our Professional Development training.

Do you have more feedback for us?

If you would like to provide us with more feedback regarding accessibility and inclusivity at Sky Sirens, please email maya@skysirens.com.au and they will take it on board!

Thank you to all of our wonderful students who participated in this project.
